Coriander

Coriandrum sativum. Koljander. Available year round. All purpose herb used in home cuisine and as a healing herb.

A hardy biennial that grows up to 60cm high, with feathery aromatic leaves that look like Italian parsley. Bears small white flowers followed by pale brown seed.

Full sun, light, rich soil, water regularly especially in the early stages.

Parts used: leaves, seeds

Medicinal uses: chew the seeds to aid digestion and sweeten the breath after eating garlic. An infusion alleviates nervous tension and gut spasms.

Culinary uses: also known as ‘Danja’ or Cilantro; used in curries, pickles, South East Asian cuisine, stir fries, in meat dishes, especially lamb, in salads, sauces and as a garnish.

Other uses: natural insecticide
